Highway 95, 4pm to 4.45pm

Highway 95 is an acoustic/rock country music duo, based in Karratha and formed in January 2023, featuring Bob Derschow (a traditional owner in the Pilbara Region) on guitar and Nicole Bylund on vocals. Both have many years of experience performing in multiple bands over the last 20-30 years. They share a passion for writing and performing original country music.

Highway 95’s unique brand of entertainment fuses modern country music vibes with a strong vocal and guitar presence. The emotion in their music shines through with every performance, captivating audiences, and allowing listeners to connect emotionally with each song. They have publicly released several original songs and are set to release more throughout 2024.

Nominated as finalists in the Australian Country Music People’s Choice awards, in the category of Best Band / Duo, Highway 95 headed to Tamworth, Australia’s country music capital, in January 2024 to perform and participate in the Tamworth Country Music Festival.

Bob Derschow was also recently selected as a finalist in the 2024 APRA Professional Development Awards.

Perth Symphony Orchestra's Karratha Voices Project:
A Song Written by Karratha's Youth, 6.05pm to 6.25pm

The Perth Symphony Orchestra (PSO) is proud to present the Karratha Voices project, a collaborative musical composition that brings together the voices of Karratha's next generation. Students from Baynton West Primary School, Karratha Senior High School, Peg's Creek Primary and the Clontarf Academy have joined forces to create a unique song about their beloved Karratha.

This project goes beyond music lessons. It's about empowering young people to express themselves creatively, celebrating the diversity of their community, and capturing the essence of what makes Karratha special in their eyes. From contributing to the melody to writing lyrics and even crafting a rap section, the students have been active participants in the entire song writing process.

The Karratha Voices project is a powerful testament to the importance of youth engagement in the arts. It fosters collaboration, self-expression, and a sense of ownership over their cultural identity. The resulting song is not just a musical piece; it's a story about Karratha, told by the voices that will shape its future.
