SOUKOUSS INTERNATIONALE |
‘Lit’ is a word that is often used to describe the live music-and-dance experience that is Soukouss Internationale.
It’s a simple term, but one that strangely evokes something of the multi-layered adventure of this nine-piece outfit that has captured audiences all over WA and compelled them to dance like they never have before.
This multicultural collective of performers showcases the utter infectiousness of high-energy African song and dance. With members hailing from Mozambique, Cuba, Reunion Island, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Zambia, UK, Sierra Leone and Australia, it’s always an authentic, colourful and energetic show celebrating the iconic Congolese musical style known as ‘soukouss’. The guitar solos and percussive rhythms conspire to lift you to the air, while the seductive basslines make sure that your feet are kept dancing on the ground. The vocals and dancing, meanwhile, are pure joy.
‘Soukouss’, by the way, means ‘shake it’. It’s a bootyful thing.
Lit-erally.

YUCK CIRCUS |
Multi-award winning YUCK Circus are bringing Karratha a big night out. Expect a wild time reminiscent of the dance floor cardio you never knew you needed, and the 3am stagger home you couldn't avoid. Come along for a riot of comedy, high-flying acrobatics, and trashy dancing.
Off Chops will take you back to the best (worst) night of your life. Inspired by favourite memories of the nights you can barely remember. Flashes of colour, laughter and stupid ideas. Where am I? Who is she kissing? Why is my spew pink?
Drink plenty of water, it’s gonna get sweaty.
‘After watching YUCK Circus I was ready to draw on a moustache, climb a street pole and do a flip while sculling a beer.' ★★★★★ Weekend Notes
'Flight of the Conchords meets Cirque du Soleil' ★★★★★ The Stage UK
This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through the Festivals Australia program

KARRATHA WRITERS' GROUP |
Get rid of those worries and nerves about writing. Banish the thought, ‘I don’t know how to write’. You can, in fact, anyone can; and it does not have to be in English!
In this workshop you are asked to bring with you an idea for a story, poem, or other piece of creative writing. Our session will start with members of the Karratha Writers’ Group giving you the basics of turning your idea into written word. You will then have three hours to start the draft of your own unique piece of work before coming back together with a writer who will give feedback and, most of all, encouragement.
With your permission and after you have had the opportunity to polish your work, it can be exhibited on a City of Karratha’s Website.
